1982 Volkswagen Cabriolet

I got this 1982 Cabriolet in the summer of 2012.  This car was originally from Texas and there's not a spec of rust on it anywhere.  The car was pretty much original except for a respray of clear coat on the body.  Recent top, dead air conditioning system and 154.000 miles on the clock the 1.7L engine was running a bit slower and rougher than it did when it rolled off the factory in Germany 30 years ago.

Winter 2012/13 project

My twelve year old daughter Loraine has been after me for a car for a long while now... so now she has one with the condition that she works with her dad making it into a cool little project car.  So this winter we are pulling the 1.7L engine and 020 gearbox and installing a 150hp "AEB" engine from a 1997 Audi A4 we dismantled this summer.  Along with the engine transplant, we are going to update the electrical system from the old style ceramic fuses to the more modern "Central Electric 2" system and update the gearbox to an "02J" that came from a 1999 Jetta TDI and a single mass flywheel.

More to come over the next few weeks - in the mean time we are starting some photos on my Google+ page.
Happy Loraine!
